Kusheshwarasthan Bird Sanctuary, spreading over 7019.75 acres is unification of 14 water logged villages situated in Kusheshwarasthan block which comes under Biraul sub-division of Darbhanga region. These villages (in combined) have been declared as Kushwshwarasthan Bird Sanctuary due to ecological, geomorphological, faunal, floral and natural importance of whole area. This area got status of Bird Sanctuary under Wild Life Protection Act 1972 (as amended upto 1991). Kusheshwarasthan Bird Sanctuary is home to many local species of birds which can be seen in this bird sanctuary. Apart from that several rare species of endangered birds are also present in this bird Sanctuary.
Major Attractions in Kusheshwarasthan Bird SanctuaryOne can meet several species of birds in this sanctuary and some of the local birds of this region are Mail, Lalshar, Dighouch, Nakta, Adhani, Chaha, Silli, Harial, Karan, Gaiber (White and Black) and Ratwa which can be found in Kusheshwarasthan Bird Sanctuary. Gairi and Gagan both are rare species of birds which can be seen in this bird sanctuary. Apart from local birds of the region, a large number of migratory birds also come here as 'Winged Guests' for stay in winter season during November to March. That is the reason why Kusheshwarasthan Bird Sanctuary is also known as Winter Capital of migratory birds. During winter, these birds take rest in vast water bodies located in 8100 hects. area of this bird sanctuary. Almost 15 species of these migratory birds are of rare and endangered birds. Some of the major species of migratory birds seen in Kusheshwarasthan Bird Sanctuary are Dalmatian Pelican, Indian Skimmer, Siberian Crane, Indian Darter, Oriental Qoosande, Marbled Teal and more.
Native countries of these migratory birds are Bhutan, China, Nepal, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Tibet, Mongolia & Siberia and apart from that many migratory birds come from other parts of the world as well.
