Darbhanga International Film Festival

Darbhanga International Film Festival is the mega event organized at Darbhanga city every year. Darbhanga is one of the most important districts and major cities located in northern part of Indian state of Bihar. Darbhanga, the famous city of North Bihar is renowned for its culture and literature. This city is located in very heart of Mithila region which has been cultural hub from ancient times. Thus, Darbhanga is known as ‘Heart of Mithilanchal’ and ‘Cultural Capital of Bihar’. Darbhanga International Film Festival (DIFF) is considered as one of the grand events of East India. Darbhanga Film Club organizes this gala event at Darbhanga every year. DIFF was first organized in February 2013 and from then it has been organized annually. DIFF is great initiative to promote vibrant culture of Mithila region and other parts of the country as well as other countries also take part in this grand event.


DIFF basically focuses on films based on different social, political, economical and sensitive issues which convey important messages to the society and showcase cultural and social changes and reforms. It consists of Indian movies as well as foreign movies are also screened at this film festival. Mostly, short films, good messaging and documentary films are just limited to a special segment of people due to unavailability of proper platform for screening on large scale. But, DIFF provides a platform for such movies which can help them attaining international attention. DIFF aims to promote Maithil films of Mithilalanchal which are the great source for exploring rich culture of this region. Bhojpuri movies are much popular among viewers in India and abroad as well. But, there is lot of talent and possibilities in other regional languages of Bihar as well. Thus, DIFF promotes films of all languages of Bihar to encourage development of these regional movies too. DIFF specially focuses on Maithili Cinema and its promotion. It also aims to increase cultural and economic development of regional cinema in Bihar. Short films, documentary, feature films and animation movies of different languages are screened during this festival.

Darbhanga Film Club

Darbhanga Film Club organizes mega event of Darbhanga International Film Festival at Darbhanga. Basically, Darbhanga Film Club is a non-profit organization which works for amalgamation and proper development of different languages of Bihar state. Darbhanga Film Club started Darbhanga International Film festival in Darbhanga city to promote culture of Mithila region and Maithil Cinema. DFC also aims to provide an international platform to films of all languages of Bihar which are not that popular among people as documentary and short films don’t get chance of screening on big theatres. It aims to provide platform for all regional and foreign short films, documentaries and short fiction films. Darbhanga Film Club plays a major role in connecting regional cinema of Mithila with other parts of the world.
